Obtaining Human Stem Cell Lines

There are a number of ways that human stem cell lines may be obtained by researchers for research both in the UK and abroad. All of them require that an application is made to the UK Steering Committee for the UK Stem Cell Bank and the Use of Human Stem Cell Lines (referred to as the UK Steering Committee).

The UK Stem Cell Bank cannot approve applications for access to its stem cell lines.  This is done by the Steering Committee.  Applications must be submitted to the UK Steering Committee via the MRC Secretariat set up for this purpose and not to the Bank.  Details on where applications must be sent and the supporting information which must accompany the application can be found on the application forms.

To avoid delay, researchers are advised to complete all necessary transfer agreements [the UKSCB Material Access Agreement and Depositers/Owners Material use License(s)]while their application is being considered by the UK Steering Committee.
